Gourmet Coffee

For bonus points, find out how your gift recipient likes to prepare coffee and then choose the right coarseness. It’s easy if you just follow these guidelines:

Cuisinart CPO-850 Pour Over Coffee Brewer
Hmm…gifts for coffee lovers…oh, I know! How about the Cuisinart CPO-850 (Amazon link), an amazing SCAA-certified pour over coffee brewer! Pour over coffee brewers are better than “regular” coffee makers (notice I didn’t call them brewers) because of how they pre-soak the coffee grounds before brewing. Also, it’s SCAA-certified which is kind of a big deal (I wrote about 10 great SCAA-certified coffee makers here). Also, it’s Cuisinart. Bonus points!

I highly recommend this coffee maker. It produces the best coffee that I have ever tasted from an automatic/drip machine and I am happy with my purchase. I am awarding this product 5 stars and, in my opinion, it is deserving of its SCAA certification.

Clay in Motion Handwarmer Mug
There are a lot of “unique” coffee mugs out there, but none like this! The Clay in Motion Handwarmer Mug (Amazon link) is handmade by a husband and wife team who apparently really love making pottery. They’re available in both left- and right-hand configurations and each one is one-of-a-kind.
I received this kind of mug as a gift. It loved it so much I purchased two more for gifts for my friends. They are a hit! The only downside is that if you like your coffee extra hot, it’s a little difficult to hold until the brew cools a tad bit. It doesn’t take long, so I most definitely recommend and give 5 stars!

Chemex 6-Cup Coffee Maker
If you read #2, the Aeropress, I called it “legendary.” Know what else is legen…wait for it…DARY? The Chemex (Amazon link | read my review). It’s a pour over coffee maker that’s been awesome since the 1960s. It also has its own subculture, and the thing that makes it special (other than the amazing design) is its proprietary coffee filters that are pure coffee magic. It’s basically a piece of history, and for about $40, it’s probably one of the most amazing gifts for coffee lovers in the history of the universe. Do you like how I keep on saying gifts for coffee lovers? Yeah. Google’s making me do it. I’m a slave to The Google! I am so ashamed, but not really.
My mother enjoys this Chemex tremendously. Each person she serves coffee to from the Chemex says it is the most exceptional, clean, robust coffee they have ever had. The freshness is really wonderful, not sure how it works better than a traditional coffee maker or a french press, but somehow it does.

If you saw the SCAA-certified Cuisinart CPO-850 pour-over coffee brewer above, and said, “oh crap I don’t wanna spend that much!” this coffee maker is basically on the polar opposite end of the price spectrum. Don’t be fooled by this coffee maker’s super-low price tag (Amazon link). This thing is a beast.
When I reviewed this Black & Decker Brew ‘n Go coffee maker, I predicted that it might outlast your next car. It’s cheap, simple, and reliable! Greatest cheap coffee gift ever. Perfect for college students and people who just want their damn coffee.
I have had this coffee maker for five years and it has brewed a perfect cup of coffee for me every morning. It is the only coffee maker I have ever owned. I am still using the same filter it came with! (editor’s note: this coffee maker comes with a permanent filter! Neil has not been using the same paper filter for five years. At least I hope not.)

When you’re shopping for gifts for coffee lovers, sometimes you gotta go big. Here’s something big: the KitchenAid Burr Grinder (Amazon link)! It’s a thing of beauty, and when your gift recipient opens it up, fireworks are all but guaranteed. There are a lot of great burr grinders on the market (here are 9 of them) but this one is easily the most beautifully designed. It grinds coffee, and it looks pretty while doing it. At about $200 or so, this burr grinder doesn’t come cheap, but it WILL impress! Also available in silver and black.
This grinder is awesome! I love everything about it, from the way I can adjust the grind to the color. I would highly recommend this product. Really you can not go wrong with this purchase.

Gourmet Coffee Gift Samplers
Pop quiz: what’s the difference between a “gourmet coffee sampler” and a “gourmet coffee gift basket”? Gift baskets are usually stuffed with junk you (and your gift recipient) don’t really want! Gourmet coffee samplers (Amazon link), on the other hand, tend to be sets of the stuff you DO want.

Hario Mizudashi Cold Brew Coffee Pot
If the coffee lover you’re shopping for is also a cold brew fanatic, they’re gonna LOVE this. Hario is one of the best-known names in the coffee world (the Hario V60 coffee dripper is world-famous), and this cold brew coffee pot is wildly popular.

If this thing looks familiar to you, it’s probably because this kettle is a staple in coffee houses everywhere. Baristas love this thing to death because it allows for a nice, accurate pour. Chemex users in particular swear by it.
If making the best cup of coffee possible is your endgame, you need to be precise with your water. That may sound silly, but with some brewers it’s very important to avoid pouring water directly onto the filter. Especially when you’re blooming the coffee.
